L’Oréal offloads Decléor and Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc
L’Oréal has sold its skincare brands Decléor and Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc to Cospal. Cospal, a new French brand builder, was founded by Matthieu Lesieur in 2024. The acquisition was for an undisclosed amount, according to Fashion Network. Lesieur’s family has strong ties to Decléor, with his father purchasing it in 1989. He later sold Decléor to Shiseido before the recent sale to Cospal. Lesieur mentioned that Cospal aims to be a major beauty industry player. He sees an opportunity to revitalize Decléor and Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc with innovation-driven ideas.
Decléor, founded in 1974, became famous for its use of aromatherapy and essential oils. It established a strong presence in luxury spas around the world. L’Oréal acquired Decléor and Carita from Shiseido in 2014 for €230 million. In 2023, L’Oréal ended its partnership with Decléor, leading to production suspension. Lesieur recognized the challenge of revamping Decléor from scratch, needing a new product range. Cospal’s goal is to curate a portfolio of beauty and wellness brands. They focus on nurturing growth and development in the beauty industry.
